SPEC/GWPG adds VMware as new member
Newest member brings greater virtualization expertise to SPEC
graphics and workstation performance characterization group
GAINESVILLE, Va., April 22, 2015 – The SPEC Graphics and Workstation Performance Group (SPEC/GWPG) announced today that VMware, a leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, has joined as a new member. The company is also a member of the SPEC Open Systems Group and the SPEC Research Group.
"This is another indication of the expanding breadth of our professional-level graphics and workstation benchmarks," says Paul Besl, SPEC/GWPG chair. "The SPECviewperf 12.0.2 benchmark, released in late February, and the soon-to-be-released SPECwpc 1.2 benchmark both feature virtualization support. We can envision virtualization becoming a part of our application performance characterization (SPECapc) benchmarks as well. We welcome VMware's expert contributions to SPEC/GWPG."
“We look forward to joining the efforts of SPEC/GWPG, as we help our customers transform their desktops with a high-performance experience designed to provide the benefits of virtualization and indistinguishable from a physical workstation," said Pat Lee, senior director, product management, End-User Computing, VMware.
In addition to technical benefits, SPEC/GWPG membership delivers marketing value, according to Besl:
"Unbiased results from SPEC/GWPG benchmarks add credibility to performance claims in marketing and PR programs and deliver widespread visibility when published on the SPEC website."
VMware joins SPEC/GWPG members AMD, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Micron and NVIDIA. More information on the benefits of SPEC/GWPG membership can be found on the organization's website.
